The generation III+ EPR™ reactor: key assets

3D representation of an EPR ™ power plant

The EPR™ reactor offered by AREVA is the world's most advanced pressurized water reactor (PWR). The product of R&D programs spanning several decades in France and Germany, the EPR™ reactor benefits from the commitment of Europe’s leading nuclear industry players. It is the world's most powerful reactor system, capable of generating more than 1,600 MWe of electricity.

The EPR™ reactor is the only Generation III+ reactor to be marketed on a global scale. In fact, it has been certified by several leading nuclear regulatory authorities. It is currently under construction in France, Finland and China. In addition, negotiations are underway for several new EPR™ projects.

AREVA first fleet of EPR™ reactors rests on a solid foundation of extensive building experience, with continuous construction of 102 nuclear power plants since the 1970s and operation of Light water reactors worldwide.

The EPR™ provides from uranium and plutonium safe, sustainable electricity from an exceptionally cost-effective source of energy at a long-term predictable cost, particularly in the context of fossil fuel depletion.

EPR reactor: safety robustness (3D animation)

AREVA's EPR reactor satisfies the most stringent safety standards. This means: An EPR unit would remain intact even in the event of an extreme impact. This animation demonstrates how the robustness of the EPR safety concept is ensured.
